Naked Techie

Techie things and naturist stuff.

Am I A Naturist?

I’m a naturist. Or am I? It still sounds weird to me and I feel like a bit of a fraud. Bare (pun intended) with me while I’ll try to elaborate.

Back in 2017 I suggested a visit to a naturist club where we used to live to Mrs Naked Techie. Luckily for me she is an amazing woman and happily agreed. Up until that point I hadn’t done anything that would make me consider myself a naturist. As for my reasons for wanting to try it…I’ll leave that for another day.

I have slept naked for as long as I can remember and in fact I have trouble sleeping in situations where I need to wear something. I was never fussed about walking from the shower to the bedroom sans towel or other covering. But it was something I’d only do in private or around significant others. Don’t most people do that? Surely that doesn’t classify someone as a naturist. I didn’t go to clubs or hang out with friends naked … those were the sorts of things that I would consider make the difference between everyday nakedness and a naturist.

So we went for our first visit to a naturist club and we both loved it. We got back home and a couple of days later applied for membership. We were members of that club for a year and then found one that was closer to us and applied for membership there. We also joined British Naturism.

As a result we’ve been members of one naturist club or another for a little over two years, and card-carrying members of British Naturism for a little over a year. We’ve also had a couple of weekends away with a great group of naturists as well as attended Party In The Stark. From that respect you could say I’m a naturist.

Yet I still feel like a fraud saying it. Maybe fraud is too-strong a word. “Noob” is the word our boys would probably use. You don’t pick up a golf club, hit a couple of balls and straight away call yourself a golfer. You don’t do a lap in a go-kart and call yourself a racing driver. Does being a member of a naturist club entitle you to call yourself a naturist? Does being a member of British Naturism? Perhaps there’s a threshold for the amount of time you need to be naked per year to qualify?

There are people at our current club that have been members for 20 or 30 years. I know people who are second generation naturists; their parents were naturists and they’ve grown up with it. And here’s me claiming to be cut from the same cloth.

When I say I’m a naturist there’s this little voice in my head that says, “No, you’re not. You’re only just starting out. You can’t call yourself a naturist.”

So I wonder, how long before I can silence that voice. Did you ever have that when you first took the plunge into naturism? Or have you always considered yourself to be a naturist? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
